Everything Round Invites A Caress, the title drawn from Gaston Bachelard's Poetics of Space, is an umbrella for several connected projects exploring stories of female becoming. It began in the summer of 2006 with a self-imposed challenge: to watch as many films about female coming-of-age as possible before summer's end, collecting notable quotes along the way. That accumulated text has since threaded through the work in various forms. The most recent configuration, Union, centers on Sofia Coppola's Marie Antoinette and the collaborative construction of its central character: a young woman coming of age in a foreign country, shaped by forces largely outside her control.
