Paraphrasing Myself (the title is borrowed from Noah Baumbach's film Kicking and Screaming) picks up where outre-mère left off. The two series of mixed media works on paper derive their imagery directly from finished paintings in that earlier body of work. Where outre-mère used the push and pull between representation and abstraction to explore memory and photography, Paraphrasing Myself turns that inquiry into a more formal investigation: testing the limits of representational abstraction through decorative technique.
